Doctors

Ministry of Education: national register of professionals (cédula profesional)

Search a doctor's or dentist's name to see their professional licence and, for a surgeon, the specialist licence (cédula de especialista). The site may not open from outside Mexico.

Doctors and dentists: Search the surgeon in the national register (link above): for surgery, look for a specialist licence (cédula de especialista), not only a general medical one. The register may not open from outside Mexico: then ask the clinic for the surgeon's licence numbers and a copy, in writing, before you pay.

Rules worth knowing

  • For an operation, check that the surgeon holds a specialist licence for that specialty, not only a general medical licence (national register above).
  • Mexico is outside the EU: the cross-border healthcare rules of the EU do not apply.
